Frequently Asked Questions For Child Custody

How Much Does A Child Custody Case Cost?

Generally every child custody is priced according to the factors of their case.  Typically I will evaluate whether your child custody matter involves issues regarding child support, visitation, or parental rights.  The biggest factor is whether you and the other parent are in agreement.

Should I Hire A Lawyer

A child custody case will likely be the most important legal process of your life.  Depending on your situation it may involve determining important rights to parental duties, visitation, and child support. You should never represent yourself in a legal proceeding that likely causes you emotional strain.

What Is An Child Custody Case?

An agreed child custody case is when you and the other parent have an agreement on every issue and your agreement satisfies the law.  There are no issues that require negotiating.  All that is necessary are the legal documents and attending a court hearing to put your agreement on the record.

How Long Will It Take to Process My Custody Case?

By law in Texas, the other parent must be served a citation and given at least 20 days to respond to your petition for custody.  Depending on the method of service, you may need additional time.  Most importantly, if there are any issues in dispute, your child custody matter may take several months.
